English version > Lieven d’Haese werd geboren in 1957 te Moanda, Kongo.Hij komt uit een familie van beeldhouwers (waaronder Reinhoud/ Cobra en Roel d’Haese) en muzikanten. Hij volgde schilderen en grafiek aan het Sint-Lukasinstituut te Brussel en Gent en aan de Academie van Aalst. In het atelier van Roland Monteyne (in het sashuis in Herdersem) kreeg hij een oude jongensdroom onder de knie : de techniek van beeldhouwen in brons. Toch blijven zijn beelden de stempel dragen van de graficus. De contour van zijn beelden houdt steeds evenwicht tussen licht en donker, massa en ruimte. Ook binnen de massa, in de detaillering van koppen, de anatomie en de drapering blijft een grafisch Clair-obscur opvallen. De kunstenaar houdt zoveel mogelijk de realisatie in eigen hand. Hij houdt niet van “productie naar origineel ontwerp”, maar ontwerpt en produceert tegelijkertijd. Hij levert bij de bronsgieter een afgewerkt wasmodel op ware grootte af dat rechtstreeks in brons gegoten wordt. Dat gietresultaat werkt hij eigenhandig af, zodat alle beelden zijn eigen unieke signatuur dragen. Ze zijn met groot vakmanschap gemaakt. De figuren lijken soms op verdwaalde spelers uit vergeten verhalen en ze hebben iets tragisch, grimmig of spottend, maar zij blijven gehuld in een mysterie. He followed courses in painting and graphics at the Saint-Luke Institute in Brussels and Ghent, and at the Art School in Aalst. In Roland Monteyne’s studio he mastered an old childhood dream: casting sculptures in bronze. Nevertheless, his art works still give away the original graphic artist. The outlines of his statues achieve the right balance between light and dark, between mass and space. Even within this mass, in the tiny details of the heads, the anatomy and the draping of the wide clothes, the graphic clair-obscur stands out. The artist personally feels responsible for the completion of his sculptures. He isn’t fond of ‘production after original design’, but designs and creates at the same time. He provides the caster with a finished life-size wax model that is immediately cast in bronze. This cast is then finished by the artist himself. As a result all his sculptures are unique as they have all been completed in a different way, in the artist’s personal way. They have been made with great craftsmanship. The figures sometimes resemble lost characters from forgotten stories and possess something tragic, fierce or defying. However, their mystery lingers...
