More information on the life and works of Jef Van Grieken can be found in the new and fascinating book "De Getekende Stilte". De Getekende Stilte" provides a unique, inspired look at the life and works of artist Jef Van Grieken. Contrary to most published works on art, this monography places the oeuvre of an artist into a broader philosophical perspective. Diary excerpts from his numerous voyages give a unique view on Van Grieken's compassion, intellect and understanding as a human being as well as an artist. "De Getekende Stilte" was written by Johan Van Cauwenberge, renowned art critic and anchorman at Klara, Belgium's national classical music & art radio station. His work includes lectures, essays and radio shows on contemporary artists such as Panamarenko, Alechinsky, Frans Minnaert and Roger Raveel. Johan Van Cauwenberghe is also a gifted poet. He published several well-acclaimed bundles, most of them in collaboration with artists such as Y. Rhayé, A. Wisniewski and R. Kotsch. For this monography, author Johan Van Cauwenberge selected over 150 illustrations to demonstrate Jef Van Griekens' sheer genius to transform existence into art. In an era when creative people are usually labeled, Van Grieken could best be described as a poetic expressor of contemporary cultures. Van Grieken knows like no one else how to portray the silence in all its aspects. Accordingly, this monography fully accentuates his status as 'painter of the light'. |
